COCO BAY resort in community for good cause

As a Noosa business in the tourism industry, at Coco Bay Resort we feel a responsibility to give back to the community in addition to reducing our impact on the environment.

It’s important to us that we support the local charities and causes who work so hard to support our community.

This year, Coco Bay Resort Noosa is proud to give back to the Noosa community in several ways. We like to give in ways that aren’t your typical avenues to the charities that may not get as much attention as other, more common causes.

“It’s the small things that can make a big difference in people’s lives and this is where we love to help.”

Supporting children with special needs

This year we’re proud to support children with special needs through two wonderful community events.

Rotary Club of Noosa Heads’ Annual Special Children’s Show

Each year, the Rotary Club of Noosa Heads presents its Annual Special Children’s Show to special needs and terminally ill children on the Sunshine Coast. This year in July, they presented Circus Quirkus, a non-animal, family-oriented show with plenty of thrill with professional performers.

The Annual Special Children’s Show is a stress-free day out for suffers from cystic fibrosis, downs syndrome, heart conditions, cerebral palsy, cancer, autism, burns, underprivileged and foster children.

Coco Bay Resort was proud to sponsor three children to attend this year’s event and we were so pleased to hear that 1500 children in total were sponsored by local businesses. If you’re interested in supporting this cause next year, please contact Noosa Rotary Club for more information.

Another event we’re supporting for children with special needs is the Sunshine Coast Police Citizens Youth Club ‘Special Children’s World Festival of Magic 2019’. Set to be held on 4 November at the Lake Kawana Community Centre, Coco Bay Resort is sponsoring one child to attend this fun event.

The World Festival of Magic Show is the longest-running illusion and variety show entertaining children for more than 20 years and looks like it will be a highly entertaining masterpiece.

Brisbane Coast Guard giveaway

Earlier this year we teamed up with Brisbane Coast Guard to help their fundraising efforts. Coco Bay Resort donated a 2-night stay in a 2 bedroom Villa as a raffle prize at the Mt Gravatt Show. More than 700 raffle tickets were sold to raise money for Brisbane Coast Guard and we were so happy to support this effort. Brisbane Coast Guard is a charity close to our heart as Jason has volunteered with them for over 20 years, before he and Joanne moved to Noosa to take over as resort managers.

Congratulations to Jennifer P. for winning the lucky prize and it was great to welcome Jennifer to Coco Bay Resort for her free stay earlier this month.

Donations for good cause

At Coco Bay Resort we aim to reduce our impact on the environment as well as supporting those in the community who are in a time of need.

Food donations to the Noosa Salvos

After the busy school holiday period, we had a lot of packaged food leftover from guests that were unopened and in a safe and suitable state to keep. Rather than throw out perfectly good food and add to the food waste dilemma, we delivered a care package to the Noosa Salvation Army. Our box was full of canned vegetables, fish, pasta, sauces, and assorted beverages and was delivered to grateful volunteers to be distributed amongst local citizens who are doing it tough. This is our fourth donation to the Salvation Army since Joanne and Jason took over as managers. Read more about the great work the Noosa Salvation Army do.

Blankets donated to Noosa RSPCA

It’s not only our community members that we can help, but also the rescue animals. As a resort, we need to maintain a quality standard of bedding for our guests and so the problem we face is what to do with worn blankets that have served their time without throwing them into landfill. Just this month, we made a donation of some old winter blankets to the Noosa RSPCA. We’re so pleased these warm blankets will be put to good use keeping injured and homeless animals comfortable.

It was a heartfelt moment contributing to the Noosa RSPCA branch and we extend our thanks to the volunteers that work so hard to help animals in need.

Why is supporting our community so important to us?

Coco Bay Resort Noosa manager, Joanne explained why supporting community charities is close to their heart.

“As both Jason and I have been regular volunteers throughout our lives, we know how hard it can be for organisations to get community support in a very crowded space where there are literally thousands of organisations in need.

“We are pleased to be able to help where we can, and while some forms of support are purely financial, there is also great value in repurposing items that we encounter in our role of managing a resort. People are more aware than ever about reducing our global footprint and it seems a real waste to simply throw something away if it can be reused to help someone else,” Joanne said.

“It takes a little bit of effort on our part, but we believe that it’s worth it”.

We would love to hear from you in the comments below your ideas on how else we can give back and help make a difference in our Noosa community.

If you’re involved in a local charity and would like to discuss how we may be able to support your cause, or if you accept food or linen donations, please feel free to contact our resort managers, Jason & Joanne on 5449 0200.
