1.    Humpback Whale Watching

For an unforgettable family experience while in Noosa, celebrate the majestic humpback whale migration.

During the months of June to November, the magnificent humpback whales migrate from Antarctica to our subtropical waters of the east coast of Australia. Their migration path brings them past our safe, pristine waters off Noosa.

Board a local vessel to take a breathtaking whale watching tour on the crystal waters of Laguna Bay. We believe the excitement and anticipation of a splash or blow is something not to be missed!

Discover the joy of ocean viewing, onboard a Noosa boutique whale watching encounter. Don’t miss the exhilaration of their spectacular acrobatic displays or the appearance of a mother and newborn calf.

One thing is certain, you’re sure to have a whale of a time!

Noosa Wave Boating Adventures and Noosa Ocean Rider offer guided whale watching tours, which are popular with locals and tourists.

2.    K’gari Day Trip (formerly Fraser Island)

North of Noosa lies K’gari, the world’s largest sand island and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Renowned for its pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and crystal-clear freshwater lakes, K’gari is a nature lover’s paradise.

In spring, the island blooms with vibrant wildflowers and unique flora, creating a picturesque landscape.

Take a guided day tour or rent a 4WD to traverse the sandy terrain and immerse yourself in the island’s natural beauty (vehicle permit required).

Explore the island’s diverse ecosystems, including the famous Seventy-Five Mile Beach, the iconic Maheno Shipwreck, and the stunning Lake McKenzie.

Keep an eye out for native wildlife, such as dingoes, wallabies and an array of bird species that call this island home. A word of warning – dingoes are a wild predator endemic to K’gari. Be sure to read up on safe dingo behaviour if you’re fortunate to encounter this protected animal.

4.    Noosa Everglades

The Noosa Everglades is one of only two ancient everglade systems on Earth. When you journey to the everglades you are entering a pristine world of water, wilderness and wonder in the upper reaches of the Noosa River.

Known as the ‘River of Mirrors’ because of the amazing reflections in the water, the Noosa Everglades is a 60km stretch of pristine waters, magnificent flora and fauna and narrow inlets.

Explore the meandering tidal waterways by canoe, kayak, or boat, guided by Everglades Eco Safaris, who will share valuable insights into the region’s ecology and indigenous heritage.

Over 44% of all Australia’s bird species reside within this spectacular region (more than Kakadu National Park). The serenity of the mirrored water, lush vegetation and diverse birdlife, makes the Noosa Everglades an unforgettable experience. Especially during the vibrant season of Spring.

5.    Fearnley Bird Hide (Lake MacDonald)

For avid birdwatchers, Jabiru Park and Fearnley Bird Hide at Lake MacDonald is an exciting destination. Located a 15-minute drive west of Noosa Heads, this serene wetland area provides a habitat for a wide variety of bird species.

A short walk from the carpark is the Fearnley Bird Hide, where you can observe these feathered wonders in their natural habitat without disturbance. You may be lucky enough to spot Magpie Geese, Pelicans, Black Swans, Darter, Little Black Cormorants and Pacific Black Ducks, to name a few.

Spring is an excellent time for birdwatching. Many species are in breeding plumage and are more active during this season. Binoculars, a camera, and a sense of wonder are all you need to embark on this avian adventure.
